Tate Modern
The new TATE GALLERY of MODERN ART, a controversial £130m conversion of the old Bankside Power Station, is opposite St Paul's. Innovative use of glass in the exterior and interior creates luminous galleries and outstanding views of London.
The gallery displays a collection of modern art from 1900 to the present day, including works by Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Rothko and Warhol. A new pedestrian bridge linking the gallery with St Paul's is due to open (after modifications to stop it swaying) towards the end of 2001.
