HYDE PARK offers a wealth of attractions as well as people of all nationalities,
horse riding, skate boarding, running, boating, bird watching, swimming and of course walking.
It's also a great park also just to sit, relax and picnic on the grass.
The north and east boundaries of the park follow ancient Roman roads and the notorious Tyborn
gallows were located just to the north where the roads crossed. Here men could be hanged eight
at a time on the three sided construction, to the glee of thousands of spectators.
Ironically, eccentrics now debate near there at Speakers Corner on Sundays, mouthing views that
would have seen them strung from the gallows in former times.
Kensington Palace, the last home of Diana, Princess of Wales, is located in Kensington Gardens which adjoins Hyde Park.
At south end of the park stands the Albert Memorial, Queen Victoria's lament for her dead German husband. Not quite the equal of the Taj Mahal, its glittering Victorian kitsch is also a homage to Britain's mid-19th century wealth and power.
